Ridgewood, New Jersey

Ridgewood's houses deserve mechanical work of the same standard.

Ridgewood's housing stock is older and larger than most of the county's — Victorians, center-hall colonials, Tudors — and houses like these punish shortcut HVAC.

Big old houses are a discipline.

A three-story Ridgewood colonial is not one comfort problem; it is several stacked on top of each other. The third floor bakes while the first floor chills, the radiators heat beautifully but unevenly, and any cooling solution has to pass through plaster, millwork, and rooms nobody wants opened up. The craft is matching instrument to house: high-velocity systems threaded through closets and wall cavities where ducts were never imagined, ductless zones where a floor needs its own control, and zoning that lets a large house run as the three or four climates it actually is.

What we bring to it.

  • High-velocity cooling installed with the plaster and moldings intact — we are a certified Unico installer
  • Steam and hot-water radiator systems serviced, balanced, and kept — modernizing does not mean removing them
  • Multi-zone design so third floors, primary suites, and first floors each get their own setpoint
  • Sheet metal for irregular framing fabricated in our own Clifton shop

The village's businesses.

The restaurants and shops of Ridgewood's downtown run on tight mechanical spaces and tighter margins for downtime. Commercial work there is scheduled around service hours and documented per unit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ridgewood questions, for houses where square footage is part of the answer.

Can a Ridgewood Victorian get central air without visible ductwork?

In most cases, yes. High-velocity systems deliver central cooling through two-inch flexible ducts that travel inside existing walls and closets, ending in small, unobtrusive outlets. Where even that is intrusive, ductless zones cover the rooms that matter. The assessment determines which the house allows.

Should we keep our radiators if we add cooling?

Usually, yes. Radiator heat is comfortable, quiet, and already paid for. Most of our Ridgewood projects add cooling alongside the radiators rather than replacing them, and the two systems share the house without conflict.

Our third floor is unusable in summer. Is that solvable?

Yes, and it is one of the most common projects we take in Ridgewood. A dedicated ductless head or a high-velocity zone gives the third floor its own cooling and its own control instead of asking a distant thermostat to speak for it.

Pacific Air also serves neighboring Fair Lawn, Paramus, and Mahwah.
